Slowly Fading

When you think about where films are shot the first place you think of is Hollywood or in New York.  Though it seems that things are about to change for the years to come. The Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti is putting in his own efforts to resurrect the film industry back in LA. Lately it had been said that "entertainment industry jobs are plummeting, hurting the economy" which I thought was insane. It surprised me that our industry over here is slowly declining because it seemed to me that a lot of films were shot out here. Though it turns out that now and days it may be cheaper to shoot films on location. Once I read that it made sense to me because lots of shows on TV now and days are filmed on location like "The Walking Dead". Another thing to add is "The state’s share of hour-long network dramas fell from 89 per cent in 2005 to only 39 per cent last year."  With that being said what do you believe will happen with all of these new films and TV shows being shot of state? Will that decrease all of those high budgeted Hollywood film and maybe increase more independent filmmakers? Do you think this a positive or negative thing towards the film industry as a whole?

Make Way For The Future

Today's blog will be about the slow and painful death of the film industry that is happening right in front of our eyes. In recent news you may have heard that the famous filmmaker "Spike Lee" made a kik starter in order to get money for his brand new film. I believe in a way that it's selfish for Spike to do something like that because I'm sure he has money to support his own film. Hopefully new independent filmmakers will follow in his footsteps because many movie companies have no interest in supporting independent films sadly. Though what I'm wondering is why isn't he using his kik starter account to help other independent filmmakers in need? With all these new technology advancements the film industry is being thrown left and right. Another thing brought up in the article is how Netflix is changing up the industry. I for one like Netflix because its simple to use and there's no commercials. With Netflix making its own shows everything will start to be different over the years. The article talks a lot about the death of independce and the rise of block bluster films. I believe this is entirely true because you can see this a lot in TV and music. Now and days people promote sounding like the next person. Innovation is dying out and people are scared to try new ideas so instead Hollywood makes a bunch of remakes. Even though I don't believe all new technology is harmful it does raise a lot of questions of how the industry will be affected.

American Sniper coming soon...

Today's post will be about the new upcoming movie called "American Sniper" but this post is not about the movie premise but more about who will be directing the film. It was first said to be that Steven Spielberg was going to direct it but he decided not to so now it's in the hands of another director. They are now considering Clint Eastwood to be the new director of "American Sniper" but Clint Eastwood is also working on another film which makes this complicated. The reason why I bring this is up is because I want to know who would you prefer to direct the film? Also do you believe the person directing the film will determine how much popularity and money it gets? To give you a background of the two directors here's some of Clint Eastwood's films: Mystic River, Gran Torino, Invictus. Now here's some films directed by Steven Spielberg: E.T, Jaws, Catch Me If You Can. Honestly for me I'm not sure who I would choose because they both can make good films and they both have their own style so it can come out great either way.

Kick Ass gets some not so Kick Ass Reviews

      Now if you're an average teenage boy filled with violence and a taste for destruction than you're probably dying to see Kick Ass 2. Even though the first one was filled with some hilarious lines and great gruesome murders will this one please our satisfaction? According to the critics over at Rotten Tommatoes all in together it has 28%. Currently there are 35 fresh reviews and 90 rotten reviews on the site. As you can tell that's not very good at all but the audience all in toghter have given it 77%.
 
    Now you're probably wondering why I even blogged about this to begin with but I have a reason to tie this all back into the film industry. Being a fan of kick ass I was in much anticipation for the sequel to be relaeased but now that it has I begin to question it. Was this film made for the money because the first one was successful or was this film made for all the fans who loved it? I believe they just tossed out the freshness and originality they had from the first one and just added more violence just to please our inner dark side. So they threw out the story and added a big name actor like Jim Carrey to the film and boom it's a huge success! This doesn't happen with every sequel but it usually tends to happen but some neglect to notice it. What do you believe happened was this a industry stunt to get more money or an actual attempt to satisfy fans with action and story but maybe the story just got lost along the way of all the action?

Mr. Bale to Rise Again as The Dark Knight?

     The following thing I'll be blogging about today is the "speculating" rumor that Christian Bale who is a beloved actor of mine will be payed 50 million to star in the next Superman film. This Superman film will be the sequel to the recent Man Of Steel film that was directed by Zack Snyder. Man Of Steel was released this summer and even though its ratings were mixed it did very well for itself in the box office.  Now with such a high number like that it has to say something about this entire film industry. The last three batman films as we can all see were very successful so what would make these Superman films even more profitable? Add a beloved hero and actor to the film and hope it all pays off in the end? Though would the industry really want to take the risk but than again these superhero films do make getting hundreds of millions look easy. Even with such a price range like 50 million would Christian actually return in the suit or will he decline the offer and take on some other roles? Bringing a well known actor into a film with an upcoming star can only bring great things some might say. Though why would the industry not just pick another famous star and pay them half the price they would pay for Christian? Luckily for Christian he already has a great reputation for batman so it's up to him to take it or not. Now revolving back to how this affects the film industry is that now how much will Christain Bale be worth to others? Will other directors and casting directors want him if he has such a high price tag on his head now? So now I leave it to you, what do you believe this is for Christian Bale a win or possibly a disaster for his follow up career? Lastly is this a win for the industry by getting more money for using Christian or is it a failure because either way they will get good money?
